Iceland has become an increasingly popular travel destination in recent years. With the introduction of better flights path from the UK as well as more cost-efficient flights, in particular, Iceland has become more accessible for many people around the world. It is a great place to go if you like experiencing a unique culture, active holidays and breathtaking nature. Here are 7 experiences in Iceland that are a must-try:
1. Soak in the geothermal waters of Blue Lagoon
The geothermal waters and the exclusive Retreat Hotel at Blue Lagoon is one of the most talked-about places in the world. If you’ve seen photos of Iceland in travel brochures or promotions, chances are almost at 100% that you’ve seen these gorgeous milky blue waters. They are known for their healing properties as well as the ultimate and beautiful self-care experience that one can have here.
2. Whale watching tour
Iceland is one of the places to see whales, and luckily there are plenty of options here to book a tour and get out to see some whales!
3. Visit a glacier
There are plenty of glaciers throughout Iceland, and there is nothing like seeing one up close. Since many glaciers around the world are sadly disappearing, this is an activity to be sure to get to while you are in Iceland. You can go hiking or even dogsledding across to see glaciers in Iceland. As well as go on a dedicated midnight sun glacier hiking tour.
4. Go horseback riding
Horseback riding is a different way to explore Iceland rather than by foot or by car. It’s a way you can really get to know the Icelandic culture and experience something truly unique!
5. Explore the inside of a volcano
Known as the Land of Fire and Ice, visiting a volcano in Iceland is an experience you won’t forget. Not many places around the world allow to visit the inside a volcano, but you can visit the magma chamber at the Þríhnjúkagígur volcano in the south of Iceland. If you visit between the middle of May through September, you can also go on the Inside the Volcano tour to learn more.
6. See geysers
Seeing geothermal activity in action is an exciting activity you can do in Iceland! With the boiling water erupting, it is a beautiful site to see. That being said, be sure you are safe and keep a distance while you are going to see geysers erupt, especially if it is your first time doing so!
7. Drive along the Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is a route in Iceland where you can see a number of beautiful sights along. The route goes from Reykjavik to the southern uplands and stops along Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geyser and many more sights worth seeing.
Another beautiful experience in Iceland is to see the Northern lights, but this can only be seen at specific times of the year and even then is not a guarantee! So it is worth trying for but not planning an entire trip to Iceland for.
